Chief Seattle Club is a non-profit human services agency, dedicated to physically and spiritually supporting American Indian and Alaskan Native people by providing food, medical support, housing assistance, and legal and job training programs. In the heart of the historic Pioneer Square neighborhood, ʔálʔal (“Home” in Lushootseed) is a landmark housing project located across from the Pioneer Square Link Light Rail Station featuring nine floors of housing, health care, and social services for over 2,700 people annually including 88% low-income and 93% American Indian/Alaskan Native (AI/AN). ɁálɁal totals approximately 53,000 square-feet; seven levels with 80 affordable apartments are set above commercial and community space, with a Seattle Indian Health Board Clinic providing critical health services to building residents and other clients and community members. The completed exterior of ʔálʔal features layered Native designs in the brickwork, from the rain above to canoes in the water below.
