Empowerment through Mentorship
By sharing knowledge, we strengthen our company and contribute to the well-being of our people.
January is National Mentoring Month, a time to a time to recognize the impact of mentors and to encourage people to build relationships through mentoring. At Walsh, we believe mentorship is an ongoing commitment to investing in our people. That’s why we’re proud to spotlight our mentorship program, which pairs new hires with seasoned project managers and superintendents, ensuring that every team member has the resources and relationships they need to thrive.
Started in 2013, Walsh’s mentorship program was designed with two key goals: supporting employee growth and enhancing retention. By connecting new team members with experienced mentors, we’re creating a culture of collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and continuous learning. These partnerships help new hires navigate the complexities of the industry while setting clear paths to achieve their professional goals. This underscores the program’s ultimate role in fostering a supportive environment and providing personalized guidance.
Impact in Action
We’re excited to highlight the mentorship journey of Monica Vilay and Brandon Fassiotto. Monica, a recent hire to our Project Administrator team, was paired with Brandon, a project manager with over 15 years of experience.
For Monica, having Brandon as a mentor has been the perfect fit.
“Only being here for a couple of months, I’ve learned a lot from Brandon, and I appreciate that he’s listened and taken action to help me. Having a mentor who can do that is a big win and I really am appreciative of having someone like that here. I just want to give recognition to those who are mentors and I admire those who are!”
For Brandon, the experience has been equally rewarding.
“Mentoring Monica has been especially fulfilling because of her curiosity and genuine passion for learning, which has made being her mentor incredibly easy.”
Brandon has been mentoring Monica on the Hillside Park Redevelopment, providing her with hands-on guidance and real-world experience to help her learn the dynamics of project management.
Monica is currently working on several renovation projects and will be supporting Walsh teams on the Hillsboro Year-Round Shelter as well as Neighborhood House Senior Center and Food Pantry. She supports the team in ensuring the smooth execution of construction projects, streamlining operations, and enabling teams to focus on the physical execution of the work. Looking ahead, Monica is excited to continue to learn and grow, using Brandon as a resource along the way.
The success of our mentorship program lies in its ability to connect people—bridging the gap between experience and fresh perspectives. As we celebrate Mentorship Month this January, we invite our team members to reflect on the mentors who have shaped their journeys.
Together, we can continue to build a culture where everyone has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive. Here’s to the power of mentorship and the incredible impact it has on our people and our organization!
